Why Conserve Birds?
Besides thier beauty, color, shape, flight, migrations and their adaptability to practically all the habitats in the world, birds are an important indicator of the environmental health due their sensibility to environment changes. Threatened birds are the most evident symptom of the environment crisis we are now facing.
In general, the areas that are rich in birds are also important for biodiversity in general (BirdLife International, 2006), this makes birds one of the most important indicators to identify priority conservation sites.
Bird conservation does not only involve the conservation of this animal group, but also the preservation of their habitat and the diversity within. At the same time, all conservation actions must be developed to include the people who cohabit with these beautiful animals, so both the birds and people can coexist in harmony.
“Because at the end we only care about the things we love, we only love the things we know, and we know only what we were taught” – Baba Diom (African naturalist)
